About the event
I would like to express my sincere gratitude to Deutschlandfunk Kultur, Berlin’s National Radio www.deutschlandfunkkultur.de, and especially to radio journalist Olga Hochweis for the invitation to present a creative radio portrait about me during the intermission of the concerts by the Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin on November 7 and 8, where my piece “Trisagion” will be performed by the children’s choirs „Mädchenchor der Sing-Akademie zu Berlin” and „Knaben des Staats- und Domchores Berlin“.
The concert will be conducted by Maestro Kent Nagano.
I am deeply grateful to Maestro Kent Nagano, who will conduct this work of mine for the second time. The piece was first performed under his baton at the Elbphilharmonie in Hamburg, and now it will be heard in the Berlin Philharmonic as well.
I would also like to extend heartfelt thanks to the Harvestehuder Chamber Women’s Choir, as well as to the choirs „Mädchenchor der Sing-Akademie zu Berlin” and „Knaben des Staats- und Domchores Berlin“, whose performances bring my music to German audiences.
Today, I had a thirty-minute conversation with Olga Hochweis, in which we discussed many things. But to me, the most important topic was the role of the artist during wartime. I firmly believe that the mission of every Ukrainian composer - and my personal mission as a composer - is to introduce the world to Ukrainian culture and to support the spirit of Ukrainians through music in our fight against the aggressor. Ukrainian music, and Ukrainian culture as a whole, are priceless treasures - treasures we are proud of, and treasures we have a responsibility to share with the world.
With every new composition, with every performance, I try to shout to the world: we must unite to stop Russia’s mass murder of Ukrainians on our own land. The world must understand - if Putin is not stopped, he will not stop. He will go as far as he is allowed to go.
We are extremely grateful to the countries that have already provided assistance. But much more support is needed - so that we can win and protect other European nations from a war that could reach their soil tomorrow. Ukrainians are a free people. We are ready to fight for our independence - and we know how to fight.
I warmly invite the people of Berlin and all guests of the city to attend these concerts. More information available at the following link:
